Q: What’s the difference between hands-on design activities, workshops and the main conference?
A: The main conference includes all paper sessions as well as evening receptions. The hands-on design activities and workshops are optional and geared towards participants with specific interests in those topics. The hands-on design activities are family-friendly and open to the general public; no paper submission or conference registration is required to participate.
All workshops have a formal submission process outlined within the workshop websites linked within each workshop description. Please note that you cannot register for a workshop until your submission has been accepted and a ‘workshop code’ has been provided to you by the workshop organizer. The hands-on design activities and workshops are not included in the main conference registration fee.
Q: Why do I have to pre-register?
A: Depending on each participant’s situation there are different levels of conference costs that may apply, so we need to be able to verify people’s information before they can register.
Q: The conference is listed as June 24-27, 2013. Why are there events on June 23?
A: The main conference starts with the Welcome Mixer on Monday June 24th and the optional workshops are held earlier that day. The hands-on design activities which are not part of the main conference, but are also open to the general public, begin on Sunday, June 23rd.
Q: How can I obtain a workshop voucher code?
A: All workshops have a formal submission process outlined within the individual link underneath each workshop description. You cannot register for a workshop until your submission has been accepted and ‘workshop code’ has been provided to you by the workshop organizer. The workshops are not included in the main conference registration fee.
Q: If I purchase a conference ticket, do I need to purchase another ticket for the Evening Receptions?
A: No. You can purchase additional tickets for the Evening Receptions if you would like to bring friends or family to these events.
Q: If I am a part-time student, do I qualify for the discounted student rate to the conference?
A: Yes, part-time students who are currently enrolled do qualify for the discounted conference registration rates. You will be asked to provide a student ID number during pre-registration, with a copy of the ID emailed or faxed to us separately, to qualify for the discounted registration rates.
